MCP4725 I2C 12-Bit DAC Breakout Module — True Analogue Voltage Output

The MCP4725 converts a 12-bit digital value received over I2C into a true analogue voltage output, giving any Arduino or ESP32 a genuine DAC output with 4096 steps from 0V to VCC. Unlike PWM-based pseudo-analogue outputs, the MCP4725 output is a steady DC voltage requiring no filtering capacitor for most applications. An onboard EEPROM stores the last written value and restores it at power-up.

  • 12-bit DAC — 4096 steps, 0V to VCC output
  • I2C interface — address 0x60 or 0x61
  • EEPROM — retains last output value at power-up
  • 2.7V–5.5V supply
  • Fast settling time — 6 microseconds to 0.5 LSB
Specification Value
DAC resolution 12-bit (4096 steps)
Output range 0V – VCC
Interface I2C (0x60 or 0x61)
Supply voltage 2.7V – 5.5V
Settling time 6 microseconds
EEPROM 12-bit value retained at power-down

Best for

Audio signal generation, voltage reference for ADC calibration, sensor simulation in test setups, audio CV modulation for synthesisers, LED dimming without PWM flicker, and any application needing a clean DC voltage output from an Arduino without filtering.

Leo ★★★★★

I’ve got an ESP32 running this on a 3.3V rail and the 12-bit resolution is spot-on for my LED dimming project. The breakout pins make wiring it up a breeze, and it holds the voltage steady even when I change the I2C address jumper mid-test.

Chloe K. ★★★★★

Dead simple way to get a real analogue voltage out of a microcontroller instead of messing with PWM filters. I fed it a 12-bit value from my ESP32 and got a clean, steady voltage I could actually measure. Output drifted maybe a millivolt over an hour, which is fine for my setup.

Eva ★★★★★

I needed a clean analog signal for my synth project and this little board delivers exactly that. The 12-bit resolution gives smooth voltage steps and I2C makes wiring a breeze with my ESP32.
