BMP390 High-Precision Barometric Pressure and Altitude Sensor

The BMP390 is Bosch’s flagship barometric sensor for drone and robotics altitude applications, offering a noise floor of just 0.085 Pa — equivalent to a 7mm altitude step. It outputs both pressure (from 300 to 1250 hPa) and temperature over I2C or SPI, with a built-in FIFO buffer that stores up to 512 samples for burst-reading without continuous MCU polling. Current consumption drops to 3.4 microamps in low-power mode.

  • 0.085 Pa noise floor — 7mm altitude resolution in full-performance mode
  • 300–1250 hPa range — wider than BMP180/BMP280
  • 512-sample FIFO buffer — burst read without continuous polling
  • I2C and SPI interface — address 0x76 or 0x77
  • 3.4 microamp low-power mode
Specification Value
Sensor IC BMP390 (Bosch)

Supply voltage 1.65V – 3.6V (module: 3.3V–5V)

How much better is the BMP390 than the BMP280?

The BMP390 has roughly half the noise floor of the BMP280 (0.085 Pa vs 0.16 Pa) and the FIFO buffer is new — it lets you accumulate samples while the MCU sleeps, then read them in one burst. For drone stabilisation and precision altitude logging, the improvement is meaningful. For a home weather station, the BMP280 is sufficient and cheaper.

Best for

Drone flight controllers requiring precision altitude hold, high-resolution weather logging, altimeter-equipped wearables, indoor altitude mapping, UAV barometric reference sensors, and robotics requiring centimetre-level altitude resolution.

Ellie ★★★★★

My drone's altitude hold went from drifting a few feet to rock solid, thanks to that 0.085 Pa noise floor. The temperature compensation also seems spot-on, as it held steady during a hot afternoon flight.

Joseph N. ★★★★★

For my drone altitude hold project this thing is a beast. The 0.085 Pa noise floor means the readings don't jitter around like my old sensor, and having temperature data integrated is a nice bonus. Absolutely worth the

Miles I. ★★★★★

The noise floor of 0.085 Pa makes this sensor incredibly precise for my drone’s altitude hold—it stays stable even in light wind. I’ve been using it for a week and the readings are noticeably more consistent than my old sensor.
