GY-471 MAX471 Current Sensor Module — 3A Bidirectional High-Side

The MAX471 current sensor module measures bidirectional current flow on the high side of a load (between supply and load, not between load and ground), outputting a voltage proportional to current at 0.37V/A. Measuring on the high side preserves a common ground reference between the MCU and the load, avoiding the ground shift problems of low-side sensing. The 3A maximum rating covers small motors, LED arrays, and battery charger monitoring at 5V–36V supply voltage.

  • High-side current sensing — no ground reference shift
  • Bidirectional — measures current in both directions (charge and discharge)
  • 3A maximum rating
  • 0.37V/A output sensitivity
  • 5V–36V power rail sensing range
  • Analogue output — reads on any Arduino ADC pin

Best for

Battery charge/discharge monitoring, solar panel current logging, small motor current limiting, LED driver current monitoring, 12V automotive circuit measurement, and any bidirectional current sensing application under 3A where high-side measurement is required.

Emily ★★★★★

I was surprised how easy it was to set up with my Arduino for monitoring a small motor's current draw. The high-side sensing is exactly what I needed to avoid ground loop issues, and the output voltage scaled perfectly linear.

William I. ★★★★★

Wired it between my solar panel and charge controller to watch the current going in, and the readings match my multimeter almost exactly. Being able to measure current on the high side without cutting into the ground line is exactly what I needed for this setup.

Christopher ★★★★★

Soldered this inline with my bench supply and it reads current in both directions without any fuss. The high-side sensing means no ground loop headaches, which saved me from rewiring half my project. Numbers track my multimeter closely enough that I stopped double-checking.
