ST-Link V2 Programmer and Debugger for STM32 and STM8

The ST-Link V2 is a USB programmer and debugger for the full range of STM32 (SWD interface) and STM8 (SWIM interface) microcontrollers. It connects to a target board via a 20-pin ribbon cable or individual dupont wires, and works with STM32CubeIDE, Keil MDK, IAR Embedded Workbench, and OpenOCD — covering the most widely used STM32 development environments without purchasing a more expensive JTAG probe. Both 5V and 3.3V reference voltage outputs are provided on the connector, and all I/O lines carry overcurrent protection.

  • STM32 SWD support — covers the full STM32 F, L, H, G, and U series
  • STM8 SWIM support — covers STM8S, STM8L, and STM8AF families
  • 5V and 3.3V outputs — powers target boards directly from the programmer
  • All I/O lines protected — overcurrent fusing prevents damage to host USB
  • 500mA self-recovery fuse — resettable, protects the PC USB port
  • Red/blue LED indicators — confirm communication and power status
Specification Value
Supported targets STM32 (SWD/JTAG), STM8 (SWIM)

Compatible software STM32CubeIDE, Keil, IAR, OpenOCD, PlatformIO

Does the ST-Link V2 work with STM32CubeIDE?

Yes. STM32CubeIDE detects the ST-Link V2 automatically on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Select ST-Link as the debug probe in the Run Configuration, connect SWD pins (SWDIO, SWCLK, GND, and optionally 3.3V) to the target, and click Debug. No driver installation is needed on Windows 10 or 11.

Can the ST-Link V2 program a Blue Pill (STM32F103C8T6) board?

Yes. Connect SWDIO to pin A13, SWCLK to pin A14, GND to GND, and optionally 3.3V to 3.3V on the Blue Pill header. In STM32CubeIDE or PlatformIO, select the STM32F103C8T6 target. The same four-wire connection works for flashing and live debugging with breakpoints.

Best for

STM32 Blue Pill and Black Pill programming, STM8 bootloader flashing, embedded firmware debugging with breakpoints, OpenOCD JTAG sessions, PlatformIO STM32 projects, and anyone moving from Arduino to STM32 development for the first time.

Eli C. ★★★★★

Just used it to flash a custom firmware to an STM32 board via SWD and it worked perfectly on the first try — no driver issues at all. The compact size makes it easy to keep plugged into the breadboard while I'm testing.

Steven E. ★★★★★

Debugging with SWD on my STM32 board worked the moment I installed the drivers, no headache at all. The little metal case feels sturdier than the bare clones I've used. Both the SWD and SWIM headers are labeled clearly, which saved me a bunch of guessing.

Sebastian ★★★★★

Plugged this into my STM32 board and it was recognized instantly, no driver hassle on Windows 11. The SWD interface has been rock solid for flashing and stepping through code in the IDE. For the price, having both SWD and SWIM support in one tiny stick is hard to beat.
