Learn how to set up the YIHUA 948D-III 2-in-1 soldering desoldering station with vacuum pump. Step-by-step instructions for safe, efficient PCB repair.

Quick answer

Set up your YIHUA 948D-III by connecting the iron and desoldering gun, filling the vacuum pump filter, and calibrating the temperature before your first use.

What the YIHUA 948D-III offers

The YIHUA 948D-III combines a 110W soldering iron with a powered vacuum desoldering gun in one station, letting you use both tools at the same time without swapping tips. The 50 kPa suction is strong enough for through-hole components, and the PID temperature control keeps the tip within ±2°C of your set point. It is ESD safe, which matters when you are working on sensitive electronics.

Because the station runs on 110W, it heats up quickly but is not designed for heavy thermal-mass boards like thick ground planes. For most PCB repair and rework, it is a practical all-in-one choice.

Step-by-step setup guide

  1. Unpack and inspect: Remove the station, iron, desoldering gun, tip, and accessories. Check that the glass tube and filter are intact inside the desoldering gun handle. A cracked glass tube will cause weak suction; replace it before use.
  2. Install the desoldering tip: Screw the supplied desoldering nozzle onto the gun. Hand-tighten only — overtightening can strip the threads. Use the correct nozzle size for your component leads; a loose fit reduces suction efficiency.
  3. Connect the iron and gun: Plug the iron cable into the left socket and the desoldering gun cable into the right socket on the front panel. Push firmly until the connectors lock. A loose connection causes intermittent heating; always verify the lock clicks.
  4. Fill the vacuum pump filter: Unscrew the filter cap on the front panel, insert the supplied fiber filter pad, and add a few drops of silicone oil to the pad. Reassemble the cap. Running the pump without oil will reduce suction and shorten pump life.
  5. Power on and set temperature: Turn the station on with the rear switch. Press SET, use the +/− buttons to choose your target temperature (typically 350°C for leaded solder), and press SET again to confirm. Do not exceed 400°C for standard work; higher temperatures oxidize tips faster.
  6. Calibrate the displayed temperature: Wait for the iron to reach set temperature, then measure the tip with an external thermometer. If it differs by more than 10°C, adjust the calibration offset in the menu (hold SET for 3 seconds to enter calibration mode). Skipping calibration can lead to cold joints or lifted pads if the actual temperature is off.
  7. Test the desoldering suction: Press the trigger on the desoldering gun while holding it over a scrap board. You should hear the pump run and see solder drawn into the glass tube. If suction is weak, check that the nozzle is not clogged and the filter pad is not saturated.
